NYCC 2012 - New York City, NY
The Signless | The Psiioniic | The Dolorosa | The Disciple | Photographer
Okay, so, Instead of starting off my photoshoot summaries with Mass Effect (like I normally do) I thought that it might be fitting for me to start off with the Homestuck shoot I did on Saturday evening of NYCC.
Those of you that know me, or even most of you that don’t, probably know that I’m not a huge fan of Homestuck. In fact, I’m not much of a fan at all (I hold nothing against the series or the fanbase, it just isn’t my cup of coffee). However, when my friend Steph messaged me a few weeks before the con asking if I could do a night shoot for their Ancestors group, there was no way I would say no.
I may not be a fan of the series, but the designs of the outfits and the bold colors, that I’m a fan of. All of the cosplayers in this group are cosplayers that I’ve been watching for a while now and had always admired their quality of work, so I was super nervous about this shoot.
I tend to favor late afternoon/evening shoots because of the creative freedom I get with the lighting possibilities. I try to practice night shoots as much as possible, just in case I am approached with one (it’s better to be prepared than caught off guard!). So, when Steph mentioned she wanted a night shoot for the Homestuck group, I started researching the best way to light their body paint. Luckily, I already had an LED panel, so that was a big plus.
Their cosplays were all top quality, and the lines and colors just…were absolutely gorgeous! It really helped that they were so patient with me and had a superb understanding of their characters and the relationships between them. I couldn’t have asked for a better first experience with Homestuck!
